On Monday 22 April we will be visiting the Wimpole Hall Estate in Cambridgeshire, a magnificent neo-classical mansion built in the 1640s. The house was remodelled several times in the 18th and 19th centuries, and it passed through many hands before being acquired by the Earls of Hardwick (1750 to 1891), eventually passing to the National Trust in 1976. The house was worked on by a number of well-known architects, and both Capability Brown and Humphry Repton worked on the gardens and grounds.
We will be travelling by coach from East Finchley underground station, leaving at 9.30am. The cost for NLU3A members will be £30 for those who are also members of the National Trust, or £47 for those who are not NT members.
We will have a guided tour of the house on arrival. Afterwards you can have lunch, either at the café or restaurant, or bring your own lunch. There are other facilities including a second-hand bookshop and a plant shop. Wimpole Hall Estate is still run as a working farm and can be visited by those wanting a longer walk. Mobility scooters and wheelchairs are available as well as a buggy; if you want to use these, please let me know when booking.
