Groups looking for new members

Various NLU3A groups are actively looking for new members – please see the list below. If you are interested in joining, please contact the Group Coordinator for more information. Details can be found by clicking the group title, and on the Groups list page of the website.

Possible new groups

Mat Yoga: We are currently exploring the possibility of starting a weekly mat yoga group. Please contact Henrietta Cohen on henanded@gmail.com if you would be interested in joining, and give an indication of which days of the week would suit you.

New Poetry group: Our existing poetry group is over-subscribed, so please contact Henrietta on henanded@gmail.com to let her know if you would be interested in helping to start another group.

New groups starting

Bridge (new players and re-starters): Peter Steckelmacher is setting up a bridge group for real beginners and those who learned to play in years gone by and feel they need to start again. He is currently considering 2.00pm -4.00pm on Wednesdays, but this could change. Please contact Peter on petersteck@hotmail.com.

New Scrabble group: If you are interested in joining our new Scrabble group, please contact Martin Summers at martinsumm48@yahoo.co.uk. The group will meet on the
2nd and 4th Thursday of the month from 2.00pm at The King of Prussia pub, Regents Park Road, N3.

German Book Club: Are you a German student or a fluent speaker looking to enhance your vocabulary and speaking skills? Our NLU3A German Book Club is the perfect opportunity to dive into German literature, engage in discussions and improve your language fluency in a relaxed environment. There’s no need to speak off the cuff – feel free to write down your comments in advance. We welcome all levels of language proficiency and hold meetings monthly. For more details or to join, please contact Nat at: ntsolak@gmail.com

Existing groups

American History: From September 2024 our main focus will be a chronological approach up to the War of Independence and the early days of the Republic. We will also include topics about interesting people, places and events pre and post WW2. We welcome new members, no expertise necessary, and anyone who wants to learn more about this fascinating topic is very welcome. Please contact Owen Jenkins on owen_jenkins@btinternet.com. We meet in St Paul’s Church, Long Lane, N3

Climate, Science & Society: New members are very welcome to join this group which is currently meeting at Inky's Stables Cafe, Stephen’s House, N3 3QE, fortnightly on Thursday from 10.30-12.00. We are continuing to explore and discuss this vital and fascinating subject which affects all our lives in so many different ways. For more information, please contact Barry: barry.campbell11@btinternet.com

Playing Chamber Music: If you have learned an instrument but have never played with others, or if you learned some years ago and wish to take up your instrument again, please do get in touch; we are all enthusiastic amateurs. If you play a woodwind instrument, a cello, viola or violin, you would be especially welcome; if it’s something else, please still contact Leatrice Bailey on leatricemyra@gmail.com. We meet at Christchurch, N12.

Open groups

Don’t forget that Away Days and Further Away Days are ‘open’ groups, meaning that you don’t need to be a member of the group to attend an event. If there is an outing which you would like to go on, you'll need to contact the Group Coordinator organising that outing, together with payment for any transport or entry charges (if required).
