There was once said to be a ‘special relationship’ between the US and the UK; now, we sometimes feel more like the 51st state, at least in terms of popular culture. From ‘cookies’ to psychobabble, have we handed over more than we realise? In this lively and lightly provocative talk, Steven Fogel examines the reach of American cultural power — what it has given us, what it may have cost us, and whether some measure of recalibration on this side of the Atlantic is still possible.

Steven has been a keen US observer over many years. As a US/UK law firm managing partner he made monthly trips to the US. After a career change from law, he chaired an investment management company. His trustee and board work has included the University of London, Freud Museum, a dance company and a musical artists agency. He has also written textbooks and won gardening awards.
