Harrods has been in the headlines recently for unfortunate reasons. However, as Londoners, many of us will have personally enjoyed visiting and perhaps shopping in this magnificent and historic department store in Knightsbridge, which is now one of the few remaining in London. But how did this 175-year-old business grow from a humble grocery shop in a run-down part of London to be the largest department store in Europe?

Speaker Richard Furnival-Jones worked for over 40 years in Harrods, starting at the bottom and becoming the floor manager of the food halls and licensee of the store. As well as recounting the history of this remarkable shop, Richard will also be bringing us tales from his many years of working there.
