Irving Berlin (1888–1989) was a Russian-born American songwriter and composer, whose music forms a large part of the Great American Songbook. Often regarded as the greatest songwriter the world has ever seen, his music is still played regularly all over the world. During his career, he wrote about 1500 songs including the scores of 20 original Broadway shows and 15 Hollywood films.

Speaker Roger Filer is a retired managing director of Stoll Moss Theatres, which controlled twelve of the West End's most prestigious theatres, including the Theatre Royal Drury Lane and the London Palladium. The son of a south-coast cinema owner, Roger decided at an early age to work in the entertainment industry. Having initially qualified as a chartered accountant, he opened an entertainment agency in Westminster, and later joined Lew Grade's ATV Group. In retirement, Roger has given many lectures on showbiz topics and also on modern Jewish history.
