The talk at September’s monthly meeting by David Staples will look at theatre buildings including opera houses and concert halls and how they have evolved and changed over the last 70 years. It will start with a Greek amphitheatre and finish with a 20 seat amphitheatre in Slovenia. It will embrace many of the most significant theatres of this period and  explore how architecture was changed by the TWA Flight Centre at New York’s  JFK Airport and its influence on the Sydney Opera House.

David Staples was a theatre consultant advising clients, architects and governments on the building of new theatres, concert halls and opera houses around the world having worked in 67 countries. For the past seven years he has been collaborating with  people from 14 countries to create the book – Modern Theatres 1950 – 2020.
