Venue: on Zoom
The Shape of London group has decided to rerun a number of their presentations and make them available on Zoom to those members who may have mobility issues, or anyone else who may be interested in the subject with this talk being given by Steve Marston.
Sir Joseph Bazalgette‘s innovative solution to save London from the Great Stink of 1855 needed massive pumping stations to deal with the sewage. The pumping station at Crossness is still intact and contains four of the largest beam engines ever built, one of which has been restored to working order.
